How to Watch Netflix Abroad, Watch Netflix Outside the USA | Free TV Online Click for Nick

UPDATEFor great and simple paid solution chk out this post, it works perfectly, as far as I can tell :O)

My 2 Cents:  I am so happy that I found this post below because I was trying so many different software’s (paid and free) and none of them worked quite the way  I needed them to and even when they did they were atrociously slow, until now.

I defiantly would recommend using HotSpot Shield in order to access Netflix abroad and once you start to add items to your instant queue, you can then watch them through your XBOX360 / RUKO / any Netflix enable device :O) too nice…

The only drawback is since it is free they do push some advertising but for the service provided I do think that this is acceptable…unless it gets a little too much :O)

Hotspot Shield by AnchorFree

If you have Netflix and travel outside the USA or go abroad, you still can watch Netflix from outside USA. The method we told you earlier about in how to watch Hulu and American TV abroad also works with Netflix.

Netflix is a great service for watching movies and tv shows on demand.  With an 8.99 monthly membership members can access Netflix and watch unlimited movies and shows.

Two Methods for Watching Netflix Abroad

1. HotSpot Shield. Our first recommended method is Hotspot Shield.  This free program will disguise your internet to make it look as if you were in the United States.  We’ve also been able to watch such internet TV sites as Hulu using Hotspot Shield.

2. Ultrareach. This second method is not as reliable as HotSpot Shield in our opinion, but it functions nearly the same.

But one question, if I install hotspotshield into my computer, then I can add movies to my queue and watch but what am i going to do to view them from my xbox?

Is it only to queue where it is required to use this software?

Ya…this software only allows you to add items to your Netflix “Watch Instantly” queue and watch via a computer but for watching on your xbox360 just go to > Videos > Netflix and login and you should see all of your items that have been added to your queue :O)

It seems that the jig is up and now the Xbox itself checks for your location… I can’t get Netflix to work on my Xbox anymore. I’m living abroad in Japan.

Cool. You can also access the US iTunes store while outside the US by using iTunes Access – http://www.itunesaccess.com. They can help you setup a US iTunes account if you don’t already have one, and sell gift cards you can use to buy content. And it’s all online, so you are up and running the same day.

I tried the Hotspot solution and I can’t get it to work. I added them to my instant queue and tried playing from there, still not working. Please let me know if there is something I am not doing right.

IMPORTANT UPDATE: seems that there is a virus in the installation file (tried 26-Feb-10) so you might want to avoid till resolved.

THIS does not work. Why is it still being promoted? Netflix detects that you are outside of the US.

I live in Europe and I have been using the Netflix app on the iPad and iPhone since it came out. It is not hard to get it working and I have written a guide on the steps needed here: http://thomasfals.com/how-to-use-netflix-on-the-iphone-from-outside-the-us/

    it works great!
I tried it for the iptv for windows 7 media center from Ecuador, South America and before this application, it would give me a message telling me that it isn’t available in my country. Now it lets me play everything!!!
I’ll try the netflix free trial, and if it works, i’ll keep it, if not… no harm done. regardless, it’s good enough for my needs.

I was using hotspotshield and it was working perfectly until today. Now it is saying that I am out of the country which I am. I have logged out and turned my computer on and off which I have had to do on occasion but I am not able to stream any longer. I think they finally hacked us back. Can anyone help? I live in Japan and have a US subscription to Netflix and now I cant use anything. I also have sling box that is unusable but that’s another issue altogether. I just downloaded Ultrareach but have not figured out how this one works yet. Will let you know how it goes.

    Hi there,

do you know how manay netflix movies can you watch a month over hotspot shield? I heard there is a bandwidth limit on hotspot shield around 1.5 GB a month. If that is valid, wonder how many movies you can watch from netflix before reaching the bandwidth limit? I am asking about regular resolution no HiDef.

    Thanks

you can use a service list the one in this post (HotspotShield) or a US proxy server or even a VPN would work to allow you to access netflix from abroad.

Having the same issues of hotspotshield not working with netflix. I was able to purchase a vpn from hidemynet.com and everything is working fine again. Another 50$/year but whatever at least I get access to my content. Speeds seem much better than with hotspotshield I’m having less buffering issues with hulu now.

You can access any of this sites by hiding behing a VPN, you can get one set up at usaip.eu for about 8 dlls a month. Its really easy to set up and it works with hulu, netflix, fox, etc…

    Have fun.

Netflix does not work using Hotspot. I had an account in the US, canceled it. When I tried to reinstate from Guatemala, where I am now, it said I’m outside of the country and could not reinstate. I downloaded Hotspot and turned it on – it allowed me to reinstate, BUT, when I try to watch a movie it says it can’t stream to my location. I think I’ve therefore lost $7.99 in fees for the attempt (can’t use the free trial when you’re a former member). Worth the try, but I wanted to write to save others from the same mistake. I’m disappointed that this site hasn’t posted an update.

Sorry that it did not work for you but you might want to try http://www.unblock-us.com/ which has been working perfectly but there is a monthly cost but there is no loss off bandwidth as with hotspot shield….hope that helps

Hey I am from the UK,and I have been trying to get Netflix to work on my Xbox 360 since it was released on the xbox. But it has never worked for me.I just started trying again, and I have my xbox connected to my pc and it is connecting fine, but ofcourse to get netflix working, you need to be in the US,so i connected with Hotspotshield, and it gives me an american ip,but the problem is that hotspotshield is blocking my xbox from connecting to the internet,All i need is a FREE VPN that will allow me to connect to xbox live AND look like i’m from the US,i’ve got a friend who will share his netflix with me,now all i need is the vpn,if anyone could help please reply.

I don’t want any VPNs or methods that cost money, just a way to connect to xbox live through a vpn or whatever so i can connect to netflix and not feel left out from my friends in the US

I found a method is which working well for me in Canada. I imagine it will work in UK as well.

Basically, you will need a Virtual Prepaid U.S. credit card and a proxy service to allow you to sign up and watch Netflix outside USA.

Actually, I got Netflix to work the HotSpotShield for a few weeks, but recently it stopped working. It keeps saying that my home network or server is preventing playback, but nothing has changed in my home server situation in the last week to cause this. I’m not sure what’s going on with it now, but I know that it sucks. I keep trying but it just won’t work. Hulu still works with it though and with the release of Hulu plus, I’m not too upset about Netflix.

Hi…ya I had the same problem with my xbox360 but the only way I was able to get it working was by using using a vpn or using the unblockus service that I make note of in the updated link in this post. It does cost $5 a moth but it is well worth it … hope that helps :O)

Hotspotshield was banned out from Hulu and Netflix side.
I suggest you to buy USA VPN account at http://vpnprivacy.com/usa-vpn.html
It’s worked fine. I have tested it in China, Ukraine, Canada and UAE
This VPN service operates around the world 🙂

Hint: try to use discount code – dp02sd and you will get 30% off 🙂

I’m in Japan fighting it out with HotSpot Shield techies to get their product to work consistantly. Unless you have a lot of time and a high tolerance for frustration I would avoid this software like the plague. I tried the frre version and it was so bad I signed up for the Elite which promises a dedicated network and therefore better performance. The upgrade didn’t give me that automatically though it says it does. I had to reinstall to get it. I can’t load anything from Netflix and when I do a speed test to measure internet performance, with the HSS software I get about 20% of the speed I get without it. Do yourself a favor. Find another VPN provider.
